Gondoliers Nearly Overcome Bad Omens

 7th Oct 2017

20171015-GondolliersTeamThe omens were not good with no Goalkeeper, no Savage, no Windsor-Lewis and Chris Gould counted twice on the selection sheet. The odds seemed stacked against until that is....  Dr Andrew Roberts stepped out of the changing rooms fully kitted out and ready to make his comeback.

Woking obviously keen to maintain their champion status turned up with a few guest stars but it was Guildford who controlled the play in the first half with many chances created by great interplay between Kuhle, Mullins, HP & Howells. It was a shame that more of the chances weren't converted however Woking had a solid defence and cleared their lines well.

Our defence was also working hard and thank you to Nick Mowat for taking on the task of kicking back.

Guildford kept the scoreboard ticking over in the first half with goals from Mullins, HP and Kuhle, (all good goals against a sharp keeper) and if I remember correctly we went in at half time 3-2 up. The half time talk was very much ”keep it the same”, we were playing well.

The second half descended into the usual broken play with fatigue kicking in and frustrations boiling over. Sadly Guildford could not maintain their structured play and Woking gained the momentum scoring some lucky goals that would probably have been saved if we had a keeper. We pegged one back in the final 5 minutes to finish the match losing 4-5.
