GU10s in First Matches of the Season!

 17th Sep 2017

The Under 10 Girls had their first matches of the season - the girls showed how much they have already learned from training and also great enthusiasm for the game. See how the two teams fared and the lessons learned...

Guildford Hurricanes

Coach – Saskia Spits

The Guildford Hurricanes put on a really good 1st season performance against Woking on Sunday with two wins and one unfortunate loss.

Our defense was rock solid with the confident trio of Tilly, Martha Francis and Molly. In the midfield position Martha Mann kept the overview, while Ruby and Charlotte worked their socks off on the left and right of her. In the forward line Cammie and Emilia gave it everything, keeping Woking’s defenders busy at all times.

Surprise of the day was Lucy, who normally plays defense but showed her skills as a right forward, and gave some excellent assists. Susannah took advantage from these several times and was the top scorer of the day.

Things to work on: positioning (keep the field wide!), accurate passing and footwork.

Things to continue: the hard work, the fun, team spirit and eagerness to learn.

Guildford Storm

Coach – Katie Stewart & Sophie Sherman

What a great performance by Storm today.  We were so pleased to see many of the girls using their skills so beautifully and working together as a team.

Our forwards worked very effectively together to ensure they not only got the ball successfully down the pitch but were pretty good at scoring as well.  Special mention should go to Imogen M who scored a hat trick. Caitlyn and Charlotte were on fire as well and were close on Imogen’s heels to getting their own hat trick as well.  Annabelle was solid on the left wing continually tackling everyone who came in her way and driving the ball down towards the goal.

Our midfielders showed great enthusiasm and effort demonstrating some of the skills acquired from training.  More match exposure will boast both Bea and Emma’s confidence and provide them with a better understanding of positioning and their role within a game.

Our backs were the stars of the show. Jemima and Olivia worked beautifully together, guarding our goal and sweeping the ball out when needed. What a force to be reckoned with.

Congrats to Grace for helping Storm out and for her first match as goalie, a tremendous effort and some fantastic kicks out.

Things to work on: lifting their heads before passing, using the wings, not clumping and calling more.

It was an absolute pleasure to coach the girls who played with such determination, enthusiasm and always with a smile on their faces.
