 The Under 14 Girls welcomed Dutch travelling team 'Push Hockey' from Breda over the weekend again this year. It was another good all round performance from the U14 squad and a good opportunity for the U12s moving to U13 to play with the U13s moving to U14 for the upcoming season.
It was a hot day and the teams played three 20 min sessions and battled well against a solid Dutch side.
After a close start the Guildford side managed to pass the ball well from the back and Jess, Elle, Rosie and Imo were solid in defence. Jazz and Evie played as a holding midfield pair and then Millie, Mattie and Liv attacked well as a trio. That left Briony up front working hard and Freya, Bella and Izzy to rotate from the bench.
All the girls worked hard in various possessions and focused on passing the ball early and then supporting the ball carrier. Guildford scored first after Rosie made a tackle in defence and then a sharp transfer from Evie went to Liv who sprinted down the right and passed square to Briony to slot home.
Millie, Jas and Liv all were strong in the midfield and created a lot of chances but we couldn't quite score. Lots of positive passing and strong runs into the Push D and their keeper made a strong of saves.
After dominating possession for 90% of the game we dwelt on the ball too long at right back and Push did well to equalize with literally one minute to go.
The Dutch girls played with great spirit and were very generous in their gifts at the end of the game and had some great team songs!! All in all a great afternoon out for both teams played in a lovely spirit.
