Guildford has fared badly at these events - starting off on a losing streak for the first game whilst acclimatising to the normal early start (as we are one of the local sides).
This year proved different, as we somehow scraped three wins in our pool games, and then won our semi final to face Oxted again (whom we somehow beat earlier on) to lose 3-1 as runners up.
The team was in a state of shock after our first game win against Haslemere but somehow the combination of Gavin marshalling our defences aided by John Taylor, Miles and Bruce proved a winning combination.
Up front our usual duo of Alistair and Nigel created havoc amongst their defence with the Tournament sponsor Simon helping us out as an attacking midfielder. Chris and Nick ably stemmed their attacks but Man of the match must go to Adrian in goal who without doubt saved several shots destined to be goals.
The weather was kind to us with a cool breeze which disappeared for the final when our good luck and legs ran out. |
