Finally the sun emerged on two teams of Under 10 Girls who travelled to Raynes Park. After a great showing in the Surrey Cup the girls were keen to work hard and enjoy themselves against Wimbledon and also Hampstead & Westminster...
Squad - Emma, Martha C, Rosie, Holly, Annabelle, Jemima, Martha R, Freya, Ottalie.
Coach - James
Wimbledon As - 3-2 loss
A decent Wimbledon team with big strong girls put us under pressure from the off and we conceded an early goal that woke us up at the back. After the wobble the girls responded and after a lot of possession Freya managed an equalizer in the first 5 mins. After that the game opened up and Rosie and Holly were solid at the back defending like Trojans, Martha was up and down the right like a whippet and Ottalie on the left. Up front Martha and Annabelle worked hard to close down the opposition and also managed to get a lot of shots on target.
Wimbledon managed to score a 2nd goal after some good build up but the defenders froze when it hit a few feet but lesson learned and the girls went down the right and Martha R scored from a tight angle. All in all a very close game but Wimbledon managed to sneak a win with a goal in the last few seconds. Jemima was on for the last 5 mins and was strong in defence and made some key tackles. Emma also was very solid in goal making some great saves.
Overall a top effort from the whole squad.
Hampstead & Westminster - 4-0 win
Our second game the team mixed it up a bit and the girls all worked very hard and passed the ball well. A plethora of goals followed with Annabel, Freya and Martha all scoring and lots of passing from the back through midfield and into the smallest Ds in Europe. Easier opposition but it was great to see the girls all trying to pass the ball and support each other when battling in defence.
Wimbledon Bs - 0-0 draw
The final game saw us play another big strong team and the girls all worked hard to keep the ball out of our net and also had a barrage of chances to score. We couldn't quite score but we had the majority of the ball. All 3 games were 17 mins long which is 5 mins longer than a standard 7 a side game. So great effort and lots and lots of running by all!!
Overall a fantastic effort this year by the girls and a pleasure to coach them. I can’t wait to see the team next year since many will be staying with the u10s and also good luck to the u10s as they move up to the u12s. We have some real talent in this age group and most importantly they have all new friends and have learned to play, win and lose together.
