Gondos Beat Amersham & Chalfont 2-0

 4th Mar 2017

Amersham & Chalfont arrived at Broadwater with one intention in mind. They wanted a big scalp and brought a team with all their big guns and a few extras. Gondoliers were a bit more relaxed about the fixture arriving in dribs and drabs and looking far more laissez faire about their afternoon's work. For the most part the Gondos warm up consisted of removing their track suits and the game was underway...

After 10 minutes of fairly even play the Gondoliers started getting the upper hand with some good interplay between the halves and forwards. The play was more balanced with Kuhle at left half and HP on the right and this balance kept the opposition guessing and created several chances. One of these led to a short corner which was struck by Regan, rebounded off the keepers pads and ended up being slapped into the corner by an on form Kuhle 1-0 up.

The second half was much more of the same with the Gondos creating the better chances. Some good interplay led to the Gondos second goal , a tap in by Sturgess, and the game was in the bag. 2-0

Our defence was solid throughout and re assuringly good with Woodward at back stop.

Some were disappointed with the Gondos play and felt too many basic errors were made. I disagree and felt we played well. As mentioned previously splitting the two dribblers on the pitch ensured chances were created both left and right and this balanced tactic must be remembered in future.

The Gondos share second place in the league with Oxford behind Woking. The league is however rather confusing at the minute with several games postponed due to frost and we need Stato to get to grips with the permutations.

Next week will be an important match against a resurgent Oxted who sit one below us in the league.
