Gondoliers - Sport or Business?

 4th Feb 2017

Lost 1-3  (Richards)

The headline read “sport without emotion is just business” but we played so poorly that we had no business expecting to win.

However, both sides displayed plenty of emotion, so much in fact that it was surprising both sides kept everyone on the park for the whole game. This was not the sort of performance we needed against our bogey team, and we’ll need to concentrate on moving the ball around quickly to open up the opposition and create more room for people to display their inherent skills.

Even though, we had plenty of possession, we went 2 goals behind. Had the golden 2-on-1 opportunity been converted after Alistair had clawed us back into the game, the final result may have been very different. As it was, a slick Haslemere side put away a late short corner and we were left ruing what might have been.

The good news is that the social at Fork Handles (Petersfield) in the evening was brilliant: the food was wonderful, the beverages full of flavour and the company a delight. A big thank you to Richard and his team for delivering such a tasty treat!
