There seems to be a theme developing this season whereby when we lend players to the opposition, they play their socks off and Gould/Tonks were no exception when playing for South Berks (ex Wokingham/Bracknell).
But on this occasion it was to no avail as the Gondoliers swept to a 5-0 lead at half time and despite a resurgence from South Berks immediately after the break, more slick goals broke their resistance to leave the Gondoliers with a comfortable win.
Mullins was clinical in his finishing from the top of the circle, Rosoman ran riot down the right and Richards likewise down the left with Sturgess filling in where others feared to tread. Even Windsor-Lewis managed to sneak into the opposition’s circle to nab a cheeky push-in for himself.
Richards obviously felt he had to make amends for trying to direct us erroneously to the pitch via the Virgin Active Fitness Centre and his reverse stick shot to complete the hat trick was magnificent but a shame his extra donation to the kitty didn’t cover buying a jug after he had to leave early.
South Berks were magnanimous in defeat and the port they provided as part of the post match convivialities was matched only by the excellence of the beer. And a special thanks to the Oxford Hawks goalkeeper who turned out for us and who enjoyed playing behind such a tactically astute defence. Bring on Woking next week!
p.s. from Stato...
Woking beat Haslemere on Saturday which means they are top with 2.70 ppl. Gondos are now second on 2.44 all of which means that whoever wins on Saturday is top of the table.
Tom is spreading rumours that Gobby injured himself but I'll believe it when I see it. So complete commitment to the cause this Saturday gents, there are no valid excuses!
