BU18s Break the Cup Tie 3-3 Curse

 6th Nov 2016

Our Under 18 Boys are through to Round 3 of the England Hockey Knock-out Competition. A tight cup game ended 3-3 for the third time in as many years...

Last year away to Fareham the boys were up 3-0 and somehow ended up in a penalty shoot-out that ended their hopes for a further round. The year before that they were drawn with Winchester at full time and in one of hockey's more bizarre twists the umpire counted a goal for Winchester off a penalty that didn't go in thus ending the boys' hopes prematurely.

Sunday was a different story. A tight game that we really should have won in full time left us suddenly and brutally in yet another knock-out shoot-out. Winner take all.

With no players from either side missing their flicks and the keepers doing their best but not quite getting any saves, it was 5-5. And then Ben made the magical save to keep it at 5-5 with our player still to shoot. We only needed to slot ours in which we did and the preparations were then underway for the next round match against...Winchester.

Best of luck to our boys playing in the 3rd round on the 20th at Winchester. Catch them in action this Sunday in the Mercian Premier league at home 13.30 v Teddington.
