BU14 South Dev Team in First League Win

 16th Oct 2016

Guildford C's played Epsom in the U14 development league in glorious sunshine...

The first 20 minutes was a close affair, although Guildford turned around 3-0 up due to two good strikes from Chan (who unfortunately then went off injured with a ball to the head), and a poacher's finish from Caspar. In truth though we carried the ball into contact far too much and were caught flat at the back a few times, lucky not to concede.

We played some much better hockey in the next two periods with supersub Barney (4) and Cookie (3) the beneficiaries of some excellent team movement, which Epsom could not live with. We were however still vulnerable at the back at times, and Ben made a number of outstanding saves. Epsom never gave up to their credit, and the biggest cheer of the day came when they finally got on the score sheet, but we ran out 10-1 winners.

The defence of Will, Felix, Sam, Ollie worked hard and marking and tackling improved as the game went on. The midfield of Chan, James, Ben and Jamie linked better with defence and the forward line as the game went on, and passing noticeably improved. Max, Caspar, Barney and Cookie constantly looked dangerous and always had the better of the Epsom defence.

It was great to see a great improvement both during the match and since the last game. Well done!
