On the 1st of October the Mens Shadows played the Royal Holloway 1st XI. With the weather against us (heavy rain), the game kicked off to a flyer with the Shadows dominating possession and creating chances all over the place but failing to find the back of the goal until late in the first half when Tom Lyne received the short corner and reverse hit it for the first goal of the season.
Then Holloway had their attacks, winning a short comer at the dying seconds of the half. However they failed to score thanks to a cracking save from our top-form keeper Marcus.
The Shadows came out to the second half raring to go, due to the 1 goal from Tom. However when the whistle went to take the pushback to start the second half Fraser failed to stop the ball, which was then followed by Michael. After that we regained our dominance having periods of defensive duties, but then we had a counter attack where Jordan took the ball into the D and thought he had scuffed it up but Connor anticipated the ball and volleyed it into the net.
It got to the middle of the second half and the goals and attempts drew thin, however, the opposition had a good attack which they nearly scored from but a dangerous miss hit lead to a 16 free hit and a counter attack from the Shadows where Gibbow passed a great ball to Connor, then on to a great run by Tom Lyne to then reverse hit cross it in from the bye line and for Graham to swipe at it at the back post and score our last goal of the game. This 3-0 win put us top of the table for a few hours before the London Edwardians stuffed the Surrey Spartans 2s 6-0.
Man of the match voted by the boys on the day was Fraser our captain. Well played to all the lads who played. |
