Pilgrims in Wessex League Finals Day Invitational

 16th Apr 2016

20160416PilgrimsWessexInvitational-200The fourth Mercian Wessex Masters Finals Day event started in drizzly conditions, but once the hockey started the skies brightened and some exceptional hockey was seen throughout the day...

One of the new features this year, was that at the lunch interval there was an invitation match between the Mercian Mercenaries and the Mercian Muskateers, both scratch teams made up of players from Havant, Salisbury, Guildford, Haslemere and Petersfield and some from the Royal Navy.

While our GHC Pilgrims didn't quite make the League Finals Competition, six GHC Pilgrims players were in the mix including this season captain Mark Lenel, next season captain Mark Edwards, and David Toplas, with Mark Lenel one of the goal scorers on the day.

As the teams only met up a few minutes before the match, the quality of the hockey and the spectacle was extremely high. Additionally a Mr Simon Mason made a big impression as an outfield player of some talent.
