A great start to the game as it stopped raining before play started for the first time all day! This was the first 11 aside match for some of the boys against Reeds School U13s B team....
Guildford U12s v Reeds U13s 5 - 0
We had 4 strong U13s to help us at the back and the rest of the boys were U11s, so were knew there would be much work to be done, with two 25 minutes halves.
The first half of the match was fairly even with no goals score, but with opportunities from both teams and great performances from both goalies.
Half time - team talk. The boys knew the win was in them (at least that's what the told me!) - they needed to pass wide, look for the pass rather than run with the ball and be stronger when attacking in the oppositions quarter. Team talk over the boys went back out fighting and were rewarded with a goal within a couple of minutes.
With their tails up the boys started to play more as a team, using the width and were dogged in attacking. Reeds defence were pushing up the pitch which played to our advantage as the forwards held their positions well, so when the ball broke through we were able to maximise the advantage.
Jack T was the man of the match - not only for being taken out twice (once before the match even started!) but for his dogged determination on the pitch, causing havoc amongst the opposition and relentless in creating opportunities for the forwards. A special thank you to Jamie who stepped in to be our kicking back until our goalie arrived and to Sean for supporting the defenders in not conceding a goal.
A fantastic result and the lessons learnt - pass wide, pass wide, pass wide and the ball moves faster than a player, so look up for the pass and make it.
