BU14s Win at Epsom with Big Brother Coach

 8th Nov 2015

GHC v Epsom  (5 – 2 WIN)

Early on Sunday morning the boys turned up in good spirits to play Epsom. After a quick change of clothing to distinguish them from the opposition, the game got under way. Guildford got off to a good start with Alex controlling the mid-field well, both in attack and defence, with good support from Ben M. As a result our forwards scored a couple of early goals. Epsom, however, had a good counter-attack and fought back to score two goals before half-time (although one of their goals was scored by James, who had agreed to help Epsom out due to shortage of players), so at half-time the game stood at 2 all.

In the second half Guilford picked up from where they left off with Mark, Freddie and James playing very well up front. As a result of the strength of the attack, Guildford scored three more goals in quick succession. Despite Epsom’s best efforts, the strong defensive play from Felix, Hari and Nathan prevented Epsom scoring any more goals. This led to the final score being 5-2 to Guildford.

Well done to the goal-scorers: Mark (2), James (2 - one for Guildford and one for Epsom), Jamie F and Freddie. Also well done for the very good sportsmanship of the boys who agreed to play stints for the opposition to make up Epsom’s numbers. They (particularly James and Ben E) played a little too well for the opposition, threatening to increase Epsom’s goal tally yet further at times. It was a brilliant performance and an absolute pleasure to coach such a talented and friendly bunch of boys.
