Men's 2s New Shirts Score Four

 24th Oct 2015

2015-10-719-200The Men’s 2nd XI unveiled their new Young Ones shirts on Saturday under rainy skies in Reading. A huge thanks to Colin Stuart of Baker Stuart for sponsoring the shirts – they look superb! And what a great way to inaugurate the shirts by scoring four goals...

The first minute of the match saw Reading’s attack thwarted by Will G who sent the ball midfield bound where Luke picked it up and passed it forward. Ed got hold of it and sent a shot up high with JY finishing with a tap in from overhead. 0-1 to the visitors in their first couple minutes of work.

A few minutes later came a hit and deflection toward Reading's goal but this time just wide. Guildford had most of the ball now 15 minutes into the game, but Reading looked as if they could be strong on the break. Into our D went Reading for a PC for Reading which was well saved by Nick in goal (the first of many).

Half way through the half, Guildford had our first short corner and with a well-controlled, strong shot from Will C, we were up 0-2.

Three minutes later came another chance at a short corner which gave Will C a second goal from a well dragged flick for Guildford to go up nil 3.

A good margin in the lead, Guildford didn’t stop working as Reading tried to find a way back into the match. A PC for Reading could have let them back in but Nick had other ideas with a diving save to keep the score at 0-3.

Our turn for a short corner – nice effort from Will C and Kevin though the deflection went just wide. After some good work in the midfield to get the ball back into the circle, Benji showed terrific composure in front of goal as he drew the keeper out and then slotted past for 0-4 to round out the first half.

It was difficult to keep up the same intensity for the second half, the score line in our favour and the rain now well settled in. The second half started with Reading working their way back into the game and forcing two very good saves from Nick.

Down the other end, Ed nearly scored by drawing out the keeper but a Reading defender got behind to tackle the effort.

Reading then got through on the break and scored for the only goal of the second half.  A series of short corners ensued (two for them and three for us) giving Nick another opportunity for yet another good save but no more goals either side. 1-4 to the visitors in our now baptised new shirts.

Great effort everyone!
