We should have carried on and taken pictures of the stranded car transporter in the Solent but instead it was a bright dry afternoon so we stopped short to enjoy the delights of a seaside municipal leisure facility.
Southampton, who last lost a game when they played us at the beginning of the season, were in no mood to roll over this time. With a mixture of guile and professionalism combining old and young players, it turned out to be an even contest with some good passing hockey on display from both sides.
Guildford had a stronger than usual side, bolstered by some ex Pilgrims, and the two rather lucky goals was the only thing separating the sides. Guildford failed to capitalise on at least four short corner opportunities. Tim excelled in making several rapid interceptions. Our newest recruit, Mark, proved to be confident on the ball. And our defence was seemingly secure, saving the odd ill-judged pass.
James in goal had another good game and is improving each week.
