Ladies 1s Host Southampton

 15th Nov 2014

The Guildford Ladies 1s hosted Southampton early Saturday morning. The ladies have been having a tough run of it to start off the season and were only on 1 point going into the game. This was a must win game. The team has had 7 new players this season, so it has taken a while for players to settle down and get used to each other and the play. Things looked to be steadily getting better, but a win was needed.

The ladies fought hard from the start and the pressure was applied to Southampton’s defence. They fought back, but did not manage to get any outcomes in Guildford’s defensive D.

Guilford managed to win two short corners in the first half, but could not convert either chance. They kept fighting. Young Helena has returned to the 1st team and worked hard in her debut game. She made some lovely passes and kept the ball close to her in order to avoid being tackled. She did well for her first game back and the ladies were pleased to have her.

After numerous opportunities went by fruitlessly, the half time whistle went. Jenno was upbeat in the dugout and encouraged the ladies to get stuck in and score goals and make sure the forwards were three on one side. He told Sarah to make sure she had a good strike on the next short corner, as the last two were miss hits. She said she would do her best.

Into the second half the game was up for grabs with both teams pressing forward and trying to get some result. Guilford managed to win another short corner, but again could not convert.

The game ended at 0-0. Another point in the bag, but the ladies recognise they really need to win games in order to get themselves into a position of safety.

Good luck ladies!!!
