Ladies 1s Fight Hard v Spencer

 1st Mar 2014

Guildford  0 - 2  Spencer

The Ladies 1s were away against Spencer on the 22nd of Feb. They needed to win again to stay out of the relegation zone and Spencer are a tough opposition who can be very physical. The Ladies were expecting a hard game and Spencer did not disappoint. The pressure was on from the start.

Guildford had a couple of early break throughs and managed to penetrate the circle on a number of occasions. Unfortunately this only led to one short corner. The short corner was not successful as Verity missed the ball on the strike. Spencer then kept coming at Guildford in waves. It seemed only a matter of time until the defence cracked. The ladies were trying to run a new press, but several of the forwards were getting it wrong and the strong Spencer forwards and midfields took advantage of this.

Guildford managed to hang on and go into half time at 0-0.

Guildford came out fighting again in the second half, but did not manage to put together much in the way of an attack. Spencer kept up the pressure and it eventually paid off. They managed to get a goal about 20 minutes into the second half.

This was tough on Guildford, as it did not seem as though they had any attacking answer to level the score. Jenno therefore decided to change to man to man marking at the back and put an extra player up front. Despite this attempt at being more attacking, Guildford were under a lot of pressure and eventually conceded the second goal.

It was a tough day for Guildford, but they gave it their all. They need to try and pick up some more points from the next few games.

Keep fighting ladies!
