Ladies 1s Win Again!!

 1st Feb 2014

Guildford Ladies 1s  1- 0  Eastcote

After the previous week’s win, the Ladies 1s were still 2nd from bottom and in the relegation zone but on the same points as Oxted, so needed a win to move ahead of Oxted into the safe zone. Up against Eastcote, the Ladies knew they could win this one - they felt much more cohesive team than the last time they played Eastcote...

The opposition were caught in traffic on the M25, so the game was a bit delayed and Eastcote didn’t seem ready for the game once they finally did get onto the pitch. Guildford tried their best to take advantage of the fact that Eastcote were rattled. However, Guildford started rather shakily and were quickly under pressure.

The defence worked hard once again and the midfielders made sure of their lines in order to hold up the attack of the Eastcote players. They again had some skilful players and Kerry Jennings (once again) had her work cut out for her.

Guildford settled down towards the end of the first half and managed to create some opportunities. Robyn B (again) threw herself around the D trying to steal a goal. Claire H played up front this week and despite being out of position tried her best to get into good positions and worked hard.

They went into half time at 0-0.

Into the second half, Guildford had settled down and played much better. We created more opportunities. Missing Verity this week, Kirsty Farquar was called on to strike on the short corners. With her slide slap, it was hard for the opposition to read where the ball was going. The first one unfortunately went too wide for Kerry Jennings who was diving in at the right post.

Eastcote kept attacking and the defence soaked up the pressure. The whole team worked hard in defence.

In the last two minutes, Guildford managed to get a short corner. Kirsty Farquar stepped up and slapped the ball in a disguise at the right post. Kerry Jennings dived in and deflected it into the net!

With only a minute to go it was a matter of just holding on to the game and keeping Eastcote under control.

Guildford came away with a 1-0 win to move them out of the relegation zone!

Well done ladies. Now you just have to stay there!
