Ladies 2s in well-earned draw

 18th Jan 2014

Ladies 2s v Wanderers : 1-1

The ladies 2s are having a tough old time this season with several players leaving at Christmas. The team has been struggling and really needed to start the second round strong. A win would have been nice, but the ladies managed a 1-1 draw against a physical Wanderers side.

There were many of the U16 girls and even an U14 girl in the side, so they are relatively inexperienced and are learning about adult hockey with every game they play. Thank you to the few 1’s players who are unnamed who were able to play this game to assist the 2s.

Jenno offered to coach from the sidelines and was a big help to those youngsters who are not always sure where they should be. They really benefited from him calling them onto players and into spaces.  The game started positively from Guildford’s point of view. Wanderers looked like they thought it was going to be easy, as Guildford are bottom of the table. I think they were surprised by how well Guildford played and the fitness level.

Guildford managed to score about 20 minutes into the first half from a field goal. It was good build up play and the ball was passed in to the d to Polly S (U16) who put the ball in the back of the goal.

Guildford went into half time 1-0. They came out fighting again in the second half trying to hold on to their lead and trying to score another one. Players worked hard and a number of chances were created, but Guildford never managed to score from any of them. Wanderers unfortunately managed to score from a short corner to even the score up to 1-1.

Jess C and Polly S both played really well and the performance of these youngsters bodes well for the future of Guildford.

Well done the 2s on a well-earned point!
