GHC Ladies' 1s took to the pitch for the second time over the weekend in their quarterfinal tie with Wapping.
The Wapping Ladies secured second place in the East Premier League. Whilst the two teams do not play in the same leagues many of the players were familiar to each other from playing in the indoor league earlier this year.
The game was played at a high tempo with both squads showing their desire to win. Both teams had chances and it was clear that both had done their homework on each other’s style of play. The first half ended goalless, but everyone had worked hard and had set up for an exciting second half.
Wapping attacked from the whistle, but Guildford countered and the result was a penalty corner. This was converted by Kerryn Swanepoel to give Guildford the lead.
Five minutes later Niamh Mann created a break up the left hand side of the pitch which found Kerryn in the D and she scored her and Guildford’s second.
Wapping fought hard to try and get back into the game, but Guildford kept them at bay. Indeed in the final couple of minutes Guildford found the net again with a goal from Hannah Bodoano. The final score was 3-0.
Nest step: National Tier 2 Semi-final
Guildford have been drawn away against Sheffield University in the semi final. All England Hockey national events have been suspended until at least mid-April when EH will review the situation and options depending on how the coronavirus pandemic progresses.
