The Surrey county Girls Under 12 Cup and Plate competitions both took place on Sunday 9th March. Guildford HC hosted 33 teams in the Plate, including 4 GHC teams, while 2 GHC teams went to St George's College Weybridge for the Surrey Cup A and Surrey Cup B...
Surrey Plate - Silver for GHC
Whirlwind and Shadows played their pool matches at Charterhouse while Hurricane and Storm played in pool matches at Broadwater.
All four teams got through to Quarterfinals!
Whirlwind were unlucky to get knocked out at the Q-final stage on penalty flicks after a strong performance against Wayfarers ended in a draw (despite more possession and shots on goal during the match).
Shadows won their semi-final and took on Surbiton in the Final but unforuantely lost 1-0 despite looking like the stronger team.
There were great team performances by all 4 teams and some lovely hockey played. Guildford were definitely the strongest club there and everyone who took part should be very proud of their performances.

Surrey Cup B - Silver for GHC
The Gazelles made it to the final and found themselves playing a Surbiton side they had already beaten earlier in the tournament. In a nail biting final where there were plenty of saved shots on goal, the game ended in a 0-0 draw and it was time for penalty flicks. Unfortunately it was Surbiton's day and they won on penalty flicks 2-1.

Surrey Cup A - Silver for GHC and through to South Finals
It seems unbelievable to say this but our girls made it through to the final after some well fought games and found themselves up against...Surbiton. Somehow Surbiton managed to get a shot on goal past Grace - which is incredible based on how well she was playing - and therefore stole the show and won 1-0.

Huge thanks to all who helped host the Plate competition - car park attendants, score runners, coaches, umpires, catering, and other helpers. And of course a big thank you to Broadwater and Charterhouse helping support youth hockey in our area. |
