 7th Mar 2020

20190921-Ladies1s-TeamThe Ladies' 1s travelled to Paddington Rec with a depleted team due to injury and work commitments. However, the squad of 13 were determined to gain a result against the league leaders and defend their unbeaten run.

First Half

The opening 10 minutes saw Hampstead and Westminster dominate and pinned Guildford in to their twenty three. Guildford held firm with some great work from keeper and defence. As the game settled, Guildford began to launch attacks making excellent use of the width of the pitch with Kelly Taylor and Emma Stewart creating some excellent opportunities. One such attack saw a drive from Emma into the D and a shot from Kerryn Swanepoel which was saved, but she converted the rebound to give Guildford the lead.

Second Half

Hampstead and Westminster started the second half at a very high tempo and attacked hard forcing some good saves from Alice Cobb. Her defence, Libby Leadbeater, Naimh Mann and Esta Greenhalgh remained strong and started to create some counter attacks that the midfield turned into goal scoring opportunities. One such attack resulted in a shot that was deflected into the goal by Kelly Taylor to give Guildford a 2-0 lead.

However, five minutes later Hampstead and Westminster were awarded a penalty corner which they converted. This resulted in an exciting final twenty minutes even to the point of the home team replacing their keeper with an extra outfield player, Guildford held strong including defending a final minute penalty corner.

The final score 2-1 to Guildford.
