Young Coaches Job Opportunities in 2021 and 2022

These are opportunities for ambitious young coaches in year 12 and 13 who have completed their Young Leaders coaching qualification and continued to coach at GHC (this is separate to junior hockey camp coaching).

The start date will be Friday 3rd September.


ROLE 1:

Junior Age Group Coach (up to 8 positions)

What is it? A paid opportunity to coach junior teams on Sundays during the hockey season.

Who is it open to? Anyone volunteering to coach on a Friday evening can apply, providing they meet the criteria at the end of this document.

What is the pay? £20 for a ninety-minute Sunday match or training session.

Why are we employing young coaches? The aim is to have continuity between Friday evening and Sunday morning coaching, as well as providing an opportunity for young coaches to continue their coaching journey at GHC.

Other information: There will be ongoing training throughout the season and a chance for additional paid coaching during holidays. It will prepare you to be a great hockey coach for life.

The age groups involved are U10, U12 and U14. All Friday training times are available online.


ROLE 2:

Under 6 Age Group Lead Coach (2 positions)

What is it? A paid opportunity to coach the mixed U6 indoor session on a Friday evening from 6pm – 7pm.

Who is it open to? Anyone with experience coaching young players, planning sessions and meeting the criteria at the end of this document.

What is the pay? £20 for each week.

Why are we employing young coaches? The aim is to use young role models to introduce players to the game, work carefully with new parents and be part of the wider U8 coaching team. As well as providing an opportunity for young coaches to continue their coaching journey at GHC.

Other information: There will be ongoing training throughout the season and a chance for additional paid coaching during holidays. It will prepare you to be a great hockey coach for life.

To apply for one of these positions you must be a Friday evening volunteer coach and have:

  • Attended Guildford Hockey Club coach education (be a qualified Young Leader or equivalent)
  • 1+ Year Friday evening age group coaching at GHC (or equivalent)
  • Attended an England Hockey Coaching
  • Be age 16+
  • Consistent availability on Sunday mornings.

Even better

  • A first aid qualification.
  • Experience planning and leading coaching sessions.
  • An Umpiring qualification.

ROLE 3:

Junior Umpire

What is it? A paid opportunity to umpire junior and adult hockey at weekends.

Who is it open to? Anyone with either a Level 1 EH Umpiring qualification or EH Introduction to Umpiring and other relevant umpiring experience.

What is the pay? £10 per junior match, £15 per adult match.

Why are we employing young umpires? Umpiring is an important part of club hockey, and we want more young people to get involved.

Other information: There will be training at the start of the season as well as ongoing training throughout the season.

Please note that there will be other opportunities to coach during school holidays because we know that not everyone will have the time to coach regularly. Think carefully about the time that you must commit and how that will look throughout the season.
