It is with sadness we let you know that Jolyon Carter called 'time' at lunch on 4th February 2017 and is resting in a better place after many years in suffering from vascular dementia. A few words from his family...
Dad was treated royally in serving RGS Guildford as their Cricket umpire and I didn't understand why he wanted to officiate men’s league cricket after the boys carried his bags to the umpires' changing room and he saw them develop and challenge for national schoolboy honours. He loved his time in the middle and the photos below are from his last RGS Guildford game in July 2008. I’ve still got the bat albeit his grandchildren smudged a lot of the signatures off from tennis ball back garden cricket !
As a boy he went to Bloxham school and we revisited the cricket square in the last 10 years when I played a game for the Stragglers of Asia CC one sunny Sunday. He played and Captained Farncombe CC in the 80’s in their 2nd team and also umpired for Guildford CC on Sundays in the 90’s as well as the odd MCC game for me v Blackheath CC and of course RGS Guildford under Gordon Hewitt or Dean Skidmore (GCC).
Our dad was also Hockey playing member of GHC in the 80’s and an umpire in the 90’s for the lower teams and vets respectively. He was also involved in running the GHC bar when GHC and GCC shared a ground and clubhouse at Woodbridge Road many years ago.
The funeral will be:
Friday 3rd March 2017 at 12.45pm
at the Guildford Crematorium
Wake to be nearby (tbc).
No flowers please as we will arrange an Alzheimer’s research page shortly.
Please pass on this message to Jolyon's friends.
Best Regards,
Margot (mum), Trevor, Tim & Marie
