What a Saturday at GHC! Plenty of hockey on offer including both Men's and Ladies 1st teams - and we celebrated the Grand Opening of the new blue pitch...
First up on the new pitch were the Ladies 2s who put on a brilliant goal-scoring show, winning their match 9-1 against Tulse Hill and Dulwich.
They were followed by the Ladies 1st XI who battled against a strong Teddington team, scoring early but not quite converting their many chances while Teddington equalised.
And then with the sun shining down and spectators and supporters galore, our first teams lined up while our team captains were introduced to three local dignitaries who came to help us celebrate the official opening of the new pitch.
Mr Michael More-Molyneux is HM Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey and did the honours of cutting the ribbon. Mrs Penny Rivers, mayor of Godalming and Mrs Mary Foryszewski, mayor of Waverley, were also in attendance. Their participation was much appreciated!
We also had the pleasure of hosting a few of our valued Partners including Silent Pool Gin (Men's 1st XI sponsor), Artemis (Ladies 1st XI sponsor), Hartington Financial, Ski Miquel, and Top-Guards.
The Men's 1st XI then took to the pitch in a thrilling come back after going 0-2 down - a brilliant display of hardwork, determination, teamwork and skill. A solid start to their South Prem league season, winning 5-3.
Thank you to all who helped organise the event on the day - and to all who came to support the club and the teams on the day. Do continue to come and enjoy the club, the clubhouse, the hockey and more!
Below are a few photos from the day. And here are a few words from HM Lord Lieutenant of Surrey:
Dear Ian,
I wanted to write and thank you for the very warm welcome that you gave to me on Saturday. I was delighted to be given the honour of opening your new pitch and most importantly, become aware of all that is going on in Broadwater. I have to say I was amazed that you have so many players on your books, all competing at a very high standard. The club has a wonderful atmosphere which you sense on arrival. I found it a very special hour and will remember the afternoon with fond memories.
I wish the club every success and look forward to my next visit. Thank you for looking after me so well and I hope you are totally recovered from your slip.
With my best wishes,
Mr Michael More-Molyneux
HM Lord Lieutenant of Surrey
