 2nd May 2019
Nearly 20 GHC players were involved in National Finals for their school hockey teams over the past week...

GB Colleges Finals

On the weekend of 27-28 April, six GHC players and one former GHC player were in the Godalming College team that played their way through local and regional rounds to a national Colleges competition.

Well done to Tom, Marcus, Max, Jordan, Ollie, Dominic and Johnny for coming home from the Nottingham Hockey Centre with gold medals.

England Hockey Schools Finals

Under 16 Boys Tier 2

A few days later the Under 16 and 18 Schools Finals took place at Lee Valley.

The Under 16 RGS team captained by GHC player Christian won their England Hockey Tier 2 semi-final easily and drew their Final match but lost narrowly in the ensuing penalty shoot-out for Silver. Also in the team were GHC players Chan, Matthew, Henry, Barney, Oskar and Toby.

GHC Men's 1s player Craig Mullon, who is Director of Hockey at RGS, was part of the coaching team for the boys.

Next up were the Under 18s in the two-term Tier 1 competition where Reed's beat Dean Close on penalty shoot-out and had a hard fought battle with rivals Whitgift in the Final. The Final was scoreless until Reed's won a penalty corner on the final whistle and Captain Isaac's drag flick was deflected in by his teammate for the win!

Under 18 Boys Tier 2

In the EH Under 18 Tier 2 Finals (for schools that play only one term of hockey), three more GHC players were involved.

St George's, captained by GHC player Elliot, won their penalty shoot-out in the bronze medal match after a tight game ended in a 2-2 draw.

Charterhouse beat Merchant Taylor's in their semi-final (whom they had lost to in last year's final) to take on a very competitive Bedford side that ended in a 1-1 draw. GHC player Raph captained the side along, scoring in both matches, with his school and club mate Elliot (a different one) who made numerous saves in goal including saving a penalty stroke during the match and one to seal a win in the shoot-out!

Incoming Director of Hockey, Dan Fox, coached the boys to success with his Charterhouse colleagues that included GHC M1s player Sam Plater.
