Under 12 Boys are National Champions !!

Guildford Boys were undefeated in the National Under 12 Club Championship in Cannock on Saturday 11 May. Ten teams from 5 regions across England were split into 2 pools. Guildford won their pool, beating Bolton 3-0, Beeston 2-0, Ipswich 2-1 and drawing with last year’s winners Bath 1-1.

In a thrilling and fiercely contested final match against Bowden, a superb run-up-the-wing-pass-and-shot combining speed, skills and teamwork overwhelmed the opposition to get the ball into the opposition goal in the waning minutes for the Guildford boys to take the crown. A fitting end to an inspiring and successful season!

A fantastic review of the tournament including many more images can be downloaded from here.

The Under 12 players, coaches and parents would like to thank the Club for being ‘a great place to play!’

Rule changes

Are you up to date with the latest rule changes? This year, there are two rules that have changed and both will make for some interesting play.

The first rule change is OWN GOALS! that's right. A goal can be scored even it an attacker DOES NOT hit the ball in the D. Goalkeepers will now have to deal with any ball and it removes that often contentious issue of whether the umpire is wearing their glasses.

The second change is that you can now throw an aerial ball from any free hit. You no longer have to self pass and move the ball. This should allow defenders to clear the 23m much more quickly and lead to faster break-outs. It might also lead to more hits being turned over if defenders do not get the ball in the air quickly enough.
